Ready to Flip your Strip to save time, money and water? Here's how to do it in your Ivory Homes community!
Our communities support water-wise landscaping and encourage attractive front yard designs throughout the community. One easy way to improve your yard is by “flipping your strip”. Converting park strips from sod to a more water-friendly design can help significantly reduce water usage all while enhancing the neighborhood curb appeal.
Ivory Homes has been a longtime partner of Localscapes®. Localscapes offers homeowners guidance and resources to design landscapes with patterns and practices that take into account Utah’s unique and, all-too often, dry climate.

We encourage homeowners to visit www.localscapes.com for design ideas and inspiration for water-wise landscaping. When considering “flipping your strip” Localscapes takes the guess work out by offering eleven different park strip designs!
You can also design your own unique park strip plan. Check with your city and/or Homeowner's Association for any codes or regulations before making changes to your park strip. Irrigate park strips with drip systems rather than overhead spray to reduce weeds and water use.
It is a good idea to create pathways through the park strip to allow easy access to the sidewalk for guests parked in front of your home. Mulch used in park strips should be heavy material like gravel, so it doesn't drift into street drains. To increase curb appeal, plant density should be at least 50 percent at maturity, not including tree canopies.
Once you have modified your Localscape plan to fit your yard or have created your own unique design, make sure to submit an Architectural Review (ARC) Application. Once your ARC application is approved you are ready to “Flip your Strip”, beautify your yard, and boost your water savings!
